
The Philadelphia Eagles’ assistant sports performance coach Autumn Lockwood will make history as the first Black woman to coach in the Super Bowl.
Lockwood is an alumna of the University of Arizona and a former soccer player. She has served in various capacities at her alma mater since graduating, including Olympic strength and conditioning intern and sports information director.
During the 2021 season, Lockwood served as a sports performance coordinator for the University of Houston, and later joined East Tennessee State and the University of Nevada – Las Vegas as a strength and conditioning assistant. After briefly working with the Atlanta Falcons, Lockwood found her way to the NFC East’s Philadelphia Eagles in August 2022.
On Sunday, Lockwood will serve in one of the biggest capacities in her career thus far. As the NFC champs compete against the AFC’s leading team for a chance to win the coveted Lombardi Trophy.
This year’s Super Bowl is being held in Glendale, AZ’s State Farm Stadium beginning at 6:30 PM ET. The game also shines a spotlight on Philly’s Jalen Hurts and KC’s Patrick Mahomes, the first two black quarterbacks starting in a game of this magnitude.
Also, Rihanna will make her return to music as the Halftime Show headliner. Abbott Elementary’s Sheryl Lee Ralph will perform “Lift Every Voice and Sing” and Babyface will sing “America the Beautiful.
