Austin Ainge, the son of Celtics general manager Danny Ainge and current Celtics Director of Player Personnel, appeared on the “Celtics Beat” podcast Sunday morning to discuss Boston’s up and down offseason.
Ainge touched on a variety of subjects in his appearance. The Draft, trade talks, and free agency was all covered in the podcast, with Ainge providing some insight into the Celtics’ thinking.
One subject in particular, the trade discussions Boston had this spring, Ainge deeply opened up on (via Bobby Manning of ceticsblog.com).
“We were just trying to make the best decisions we can… We’re trying to get a star, but price matters”, Ainge said. “If our fans saw the prices on some of the trades, they’d say, ‘Yeah. They made the right decision’.
It’s hard to improve via trade on the guys we have, You can’t just go pick up guys better than Isaiah Thomas, Avery Bradley, Marcus Smart, Jae Crowder — they usually aren’t available. We feel good about our players”.
The Celtics offseason produced a roller coaster of emotions in Boston fans. Losing long-time Celtics forward Jared Sullinger and fan favorite Evan Turner stung, but the additions of Al Horford, Gerald Green, Jaylen Brown, and others have fans eagerly looking forward to opening night.
For Austin Ainge, the C’s offseason was one to be somewhat proud of. Ainge gave the team a B+ for its offseason grade, a grade that could change if Boston finds the big deal its been seeking for months.
