The Kansas City Cheifs have announced the release of linebacker Anthony Hitchens in a move that will save cap space. To be exact this roster move will save the team $8.44 million. He was owed $12.6 million next year, so there will be some dead cap, but it frees up more money for the Chiefs to restructure. The Kansas City Chiefs fell just short in their return to the Super Bowl with a last-second Cincinnatti Bengals field goal in the 2022 AFC Championship.

The former Kansas City Chiefs linebacker was a big part of the team’s success and run to a victory in Super Bowl LIV. Sometimes hard decisions have to be made in the name of cap space and now the team will need to fill in some linebacker snaps with someone else. Anthony Hitchens will be free to sign with another team in the 2022 NFL Free Agency period. Now the team has some extra money to build another Super Bowl winner.

This past season with Kansas City he recorded 80 total tackles and 41 solo tackles. He also caught one interception on the season. The linebacker just completed his eighth season in the NFL, four being with the Cheifs and four with the Dallas Cowboys. His ninth NFL season may very well be with his third team. We here at Def Pen Sports wish him the best with his next step.
