Anthony Davis had arguably the best All-Star Weekend. Not only did he drop 52 points in the All-Star Game (breaking a record held by Wilt Chamberlain) in front of his home crowd, he also took home MVP honors.
Things still get better.
The New Orleans Pelicans completed a trade Sunday night with the Sacramento Kings, acquiring big-man DeMarcus Cousins for a myriad of guards and draft picks. The move instantly gives the Pelicans a fierce two-headed monster that is a matchup nightmare for opposing coaches.
Needless to say, Davis had a great Sunday night. In speaking to ESPN’s Jeff Goodman (before the trade was officially completed) The Brow was ecstatic. “This is an unbelievable weekend. All-Star MVP and now getting Boogie. It doesn’t get better than this”, Davis says.
Cousins is easily the most talent player Davis has ever played with. The new front court duo will be asked to shoulder quite the load, however. Quality players Buddy Hield, Tyreke Evans, and Langston Galloway are all headed to Sacramento in the trade. This thins out the Pelicans roster severely, so more moves will have to be made. Right now Omri Casspi would be slated as the starting small forward which is less than ideal.
The Pelicans will be fighting for a playoff spot the rest of the season, and could prove to be a potent challenger in the first round.
