Stand-up comic Anjelah Johnson is set to star in a new series at NBC. America Ferrera and Kevin Hart are both attached as executive producers.
The series, All Fancy, will be based loosely on Johnson’s life and stand-up material. Johnson will portray Veronica Jimenez, a 30-something Mexican-American woman. Jimenez often goes what is expected of her socially and culturally. This causes comedy and chaos to follow Jimenez as she navigates her place in the world.
Emilia Serrano will write the series and serve as an executive producer alongside Hart and Ferrera. Hart will be producing the series through his banner HartBeat, John Cheng will join him from HartBeat. Ferrera will be producing through her own company, Take Fountain Productions.
Johnson has had stand-up specials released on Comedy Central, Epix, and Netflix. She has also appeared on a number of sitcoms over the years. Most notably Ugly Betty, which starred Ferrera, and Curb Your Enthusiasm. Johnson has also appeared in films such as Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel and Mom’s Night Out.
All Fancy doesn’t have a release window yet but it will likely premiere sometime during the 2019-2020 season.
