The Minnesota Timberwolves have had a busy offseason thus far. The team traded for Jimmy Butler and has attempted to fill the roster around him.
Now, the focus has reportedly shifted on re-signing Andrew Wiggins to a long-term deal. The team has seemingly opened up negotiations for an extension for the fourth-year pro.
Wiggins, for his part, is looking to get a big payday out of his next deal. He told Ben Golliver of The Crossover that he expects a max deal:
“I definitely do,” Wiggins told The Crossover. “Nothing less.”
Wiggins, who also spoke about his excitement for the Wolves’ now high expectations, was the number one overall pick in 2014. Last season, the wing averaged 23.6 points on 45.2 percent from the field. He also added 4.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.
The Wolves have been a reported destination for Kyrie Irving should the Cavs trade him. In such an event, Wiggins may be headed to Cleveland as part of a trade.
Wiggins will be a restricted free agent in 2018 if he does not agree to an extension. The Wolves would then have a chance to match any offer other teams give to the former number-one overall pick.
