Andrew Bogut and Matthew Dellavedova highlight Australia’s status for producing hard-working, and unselfish role players. According to reports from Real GM; if Andrew Bogut had his way, then Matthew Dellavedova would be lacing up his sneakers for the Warriors and not against them in the 2015 NBA Finals.
Bogut’s interesting chase for the tough point guard from Victoria county happened around the 2013 NBA Draft. Dellavedova was left sitting on the shelf, bypassed by all 30 NBA teams, and star centre Bogut, who arrived at the Warriors the year before in a controversial multi-player trade, had a chat with Golden State general manager Bob Myers.
“I was trying to get him (Dellavedova) here actually, but we didn’t have a roster spot at the time,”
Bogut revealed to reporters after a training session.
“We had Nedovic and he was in the point guard spot for us, I was trying to tell Bob (Myers) to get him in.”
The duo will make history later this week, becoming the first Australian players to meet in The Finals.
After Patty Mills and Aron Baynes won the title with the Spurs last season, Aussie fans will be too overjoyed knowing that another local player will have his hands on the Larry O’Brien Trophy in a few more weeks. Bogut as Golden State’s key rim protector and Dellavedova as the back-up to Kyrie Irving in the guard role for Cleveland.
“It’s good for basketball in Australia, but to be honest it doesn’t really matter to me who we play, We have one goal in mind.”
he said.
Game one is in Oakland on Thursday Jun. 4, 9:00 PM ET ABC.
