Former Golden State Warriors center Andrew Bogut has struggled to find consistent time on the court with Dallas this season, missing several games over the past two months due to injury.
Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle recently moved Bogut to a bench role, accommodating his request. Regardless, it is something the Australian big man hasn’t seen since entering the league in 2005.
With Dallas suffering from various injuries, while also holding the league’s worst record, a bench role on this Mavericks team isn’t something that Andrew Bogut is interested in long-term.
“Thankfully I’m a free agent here so I only have a couple of months more here and then will most likely move on,” Bogut said in an interview with Sky Sports Radio. “I don’t see myself hanging around with everything that’s gone on. It will be an interesting six months ahead.”
Bogut, who started center for the 2015 NBA champion Golden State Warriors, was traded to Dallas to create space for the Warriors to sign Kevin Durant this past summer. Bogut is set to enter unrestricted free agency this July, leading him to wonder if he’ll leave the Mavericks earlier than expected — Perhaps before the annual trade deadline later next month.
“I’ve got a valuable contract … having four months left on my contract I’m a valuable commodity to be moved,” Bogut said.
Since his rookie season, Andrew Bogut has naturally become accustomed to playing in a starting position. He played a significant role in the success of the 72-10 Golden State Warriors last season, and was a key cog in the Milwaukee Bucks’ rotation during his early years in the league.
Bogut, a 12-year NBA veteran, holds career-averages of 10.1 points and nine rebounds per game. He has started in 648 out of a possible 662 career games in the league with the Bucks, Warriors and Mavericks.
The Boston Celtics and Portland Trail Blazers are among the teams that have expressed interest in Bogut, a player that can likely be traded for a future first-round pick if healthy.
