Amanda Gorman has had a better year than anyone in the country and it’s not even close. The talented author started her year by delivering a powerful performance at the inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. Shortly thereafter, Gorman signed a deal with IMG Models. Now, she’s taking the stage at Super Bowl LV.
To most people’s knowledge, Gorman emerged as a star poet this year. However, her grind to the top started years ago. Prior to performing in front of lawmakers in Washington, D.C., she had shared her work with the likes of Oprah Winfrey and Lin Manuel Miranda. In fact, her star power and talent landed her a spot at Super Bowl LV before the day of the inauguration.
“We first met with Amanda’s team in early November, and then with her at the end of that month, so we’ve been familiar with her talent and power for awhile now,” NFL Vice President of Event Strategy Matt Shapiro told USA Today Sports.
“We at the league have been big fans of her work for some time and knew she’d be the perfect person to bring power and unity to this unique moment in an unprecedented year.”
