Alvin Gentry Joins Warriors Staff
Los Angeles Clippers assistant coach Alvin Gentry is set to join Steve Kerr as an assistant on the Golden State Warriors coaching staff next season. Gentry is Kerr’s first staff hire since turning down Phil Jackson and the Knicks to become head coach of the Warriors.
Gentry was being considered as head coach for the Los Angeles Lakers, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Utah Jazz, the Lakers being the only current team still without a head coach. Kerr and Gentry spent some time as co-workers in Phoenix, where Gentry was head coach for five seasons until 2013 and Kerr was GM for part of his tenure. Gentry was Doc Rivers’ lead assistant in Los Angeles as an experienced offensive coach, and he’ll be aiding another offensive power in the Pacific Division next season.
