We are mere hours away from Allen Iverson being inducted into the Hall of Fame and he’s already been the subject of several stories. On Thursday, the former 76ers’ point guard was late for the press conference due to a personal reason. He did eventually get there and give a great response about his former teammates.
On Friday, Iverson skipped a different Hall of Fame event altogether.
Following via Tom Westerholm of MassLive:
Allen Iverson, 2016 Basketball Hall of Fame guard, was supposed to make an appearance at Commerce High School in Springfield on Friday — a community event scheduled by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and an opportunity to speak in front of the student body.
Commerce students were gathered into the school auditorium and seemed very excited, cheering every time it appeared that the former Philadelphia 76ers guard might have arrived. Scattered chants of “We want A-I” started up as they waited. When a Sixers employee took snapchats with the crowd as everyone waited, the auditorium exploded with cheers.
Iverson, who also arrived late to Thursday’s Hall of Fame press conference, never showed up.
We’re not here to make any judgments on the situation. Iverson could have had a more important obligation. All the same, it’s really disappointing that those students weren’t able to see one of the greatest players in NBA history.
