All-American: Homecoming recently wrapped up a successful sophomore season, but a few of the show’s key stars will shift their roles in the series for the foreseeable future. According to Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva, Peyton Alex Smith and Kelly Jenrette will be downgraded from series regulars to recurring characters in season three. Camille Hyde, who portrays Thea Mays, may not return for season three either.
“Peyton Alex Smith and Kelly Jenrette will not continue as series regulars, but will likely recur next season, I hear. Jenrette, with her team, made the decision to recur rather than opt for a return as a series regular on reduced episodic guarantees,” Andreeva wrote.
“The status of Camille Hyde, who portrays Thea Mays, is TBD for now.”
Changes to the cast are reportedly due to budget cuts. Shortly after CW was acquired, the network’s new owners reportedly made plans to cut show budgets in an effort to increase profits. Similar to cast cuts on All-American: Homecoming, only four of Superman & Lois’ twelve regular characters will return in the same capacity next season.
Despite these cuts, CW still has plans to bring All-American: Homecoming back for a third season.
“We are thrilled to bring All American: Homecoming and Superman & Lois back to The CW,” CW Entertainment President Brad Schwartz said.
“These series are two of our strongest performers across our linear and digital platforms with some of the most passionate fanbases in all of television. We are grateful to our partners at Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions for their continued collaboration, and we cannot wait to get started on the new seasons.”
