To the casual NBA fan, sports agencies are all the same, they sit with you and they fight to get you the best deal no matter how good or garbage you are.
But having the right agent matters. The TV show ‘Entourage’ isn’t the best of examples but it’s relevant. In the show there’s an episode where Vincent Chase wanted to change agents, he then realised that (in the show’s case) all agents do the same stuff so he ends up going back to his old agent. This is what Al Horford has done. The grass always looks greener on the other side, but then you get to the other side and you realise you were fine where you were. If it ain’t broke, right?
Horford left Wasserman Media Group (WMG) for Bill Duffy of BDA Sports but has now suddenly had a change of heart. According to Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Horford is back with WMG.
Al Horford has returned to the Wasserman Media Group as his agent, the Hawks center said Friday.
Horford joined with Bill Duffy of BDA Sports Management earlier this year. He had been represented by Arn Tellem at Wasserman for much of his career. He briefly left the agency when Tellem joined the front office of the Pistons.
Horford will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season as he enters the final year of his contract with the Hawks.
“It’s just a personal decision,” Horford told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “I just felt more comfortable being with Wasserman.”
This is important because Horford is 1) 30 years old. And 2) is on the last year of his contract. This will probably be his final chance to get a big contract as he prepares to enter the twilight of his career. Granted his play suggests that he could play for another 10 years but let’s not start the guessing games when it comes to his contract.
