For the first time, AfroPunk will move forward with a virtual music and culture festival. The entire festival will be livestreamed from October 23rd through October 25th. As always, the festival will work to highlight Black creatives, musicians and much more.
“As people rally across the world for Black liberation, we are using technology this year to bring together the largest virtual gathering of the worldwide Black creative community in one, curated online space for the first time in our 15-year history,” the festival writes.
“This festival pays homage to the reality that the upheavals we’ve gone through over the course of the year are far from novel; they have been central to the Black experience across space and time, which is recognized in this year’s theme, PLANET AFROPUNK: PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE IS BLACK.”
Gracing this year’s festival stage, Smino, Tobe Nwigwe, Ari Lennox, Masego and Mereba will perform. The three-day event will also feature Amanda Seales and Trevor Noah.
“This year’s festival holds a very special place in our hearts. While we will convene during one of the most uncertain of times we trust that this global uncertainty will connect us deeper than ever before. While the thought of losing some things (like mosh pits) at this year’s festival due its digital form hurts we know that what is gained is just as beautiful,” AfroPunk adds.
Best of all, this year’s event will be entirely free. For details on how to register, visit their official website and be sure to check out the full festival lineup below.
