By now, if you’ve listened to the radio or had internet access this past weekend, you’ve heard or seen mention of Adele’s new single. Released on Ocotber 23rd, like a ball out a cannon, Adele’s ‘Hello’ launched at full speed and quickly raced to the No. 1 spot on iTunes. Coming off the success of her second studio album, 21, there’s no surprise that fans of the singer rushed to purchase the highly anticipated record. Now, only two full days since being made available for purchase, Adele’s new single is on pace to set a new U.S. digital sales week record.
The track, released through XL Recordings/Columbia Records on Oct. 23, could challenge the current one-week sales record holder: Flo Rida’s “Right Round.” It sold 636,000 downloads in is debut frame (week ending Feb. 15, 2009), according to Nielsen Music. (Adele’s largest sales week for a song was earned by “Rolling in the Deep,” which shifted 353,000 in the frame ending May 15, 2011.)
Also, according to Billboard, ‘Hello’ sold in the area of 450,000 copies in the first two days and if that wasn’t enough, the accompanying video has been viewed 60,381,989 times and counting. With potentially recording breaking sales and monstrous streaming across the board, Adele’s new record has all the makings for an instant No. 1 debut atop of the Billboard Hot 100. All will be revealed on November 2nd as the official numbers will be shared. Until then, 25 is shaping up to be even bigger than its almost 5 year old predecessor.
