In recent years, with the advancement of technology, the music industry has seen a shift from physical albums sales to putting the focus more on convenience. That convenience comes in the form of music streaming services which gives users access to mostly any music of their choice, with only a series of clicks. With the likes of Spotify, Tidal, and Apple Music being among some of the most popular streaming formats, artists and labels have took a stance to make sure they are being compensated properly for their music being available via these platforms. 4 years since her 21 album and things have surely changed since then. Allegedly, Adele is only willing to make her new album available on Spotify if it’s restricted to paid subscribers.
Adele and her team have been pushing Spotify to limit the release of her third album, 25, to paid subscribers only, which would shrink the availability of the album to around 20 million of the streaming service’s 75 million total users, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. Spotify has resisted the proposal and has yet to find out if 25 will be available to stream on the platform.
This notion wouldn’t be too extreme as the likes of Beyonce and other have purposely not made their LPs available to the service in the past. With 25 being deemed as the biggest album of the year, if this is the case, it would only be a blow for Spotify and its free users. Only time will tell as Adele’s 25 is merely 10 days away!
