This first step for all players trying to make an NBA roster once they are drafted is summer league, and Aaron White is hoping to use the process to help him make the Washington roster. For the 49th pick in the draft, his performance is going to be vital towards his ability to make the 15-man roster.
Following From Washington Post.
“We’re just going to go bit by bit. Take summer league first and go from there,” White said. “See how this goes for me. It’s just good to be out here working with the coaches. I’m sure we’ll sit down, whether it’s this week or after summer league, and we’ll talk about the future. But I know they saw something in me that they liked. Depending on how the roster shakes out, I would love to play this year but if not, I just want to become the best basketball player I can become. So if that’s taking a year overseas or whatever it is, I’m up to do [that]. But obviously my goal going into this is to try to play this year.”
White must play at his highest level to even have a chance of making the Wizards’ roster once the season rolls around. It’s going to be an uphill battle, but at least if he is unable to make the team, he can go overseas until he is ready to make an NBA debut.
It’s clear that White wants to play in the NBA rather than go overseas, and his play in summer league is going to dictate if his wishes are able to come true. His first opportunity will come on June 11th at 6PM when Washington takes on the Phoenix Suns in Las Vegas.
