The Philadelphia 76ers have managed to maneuver their way through almost this entire offseason without anyone manning the all-important General Manager role.
Philadelphia has yet to hire a replacement for former GM Bryan Colangelo who resigned from the role after news broke of his secret Twitter accounts. However, they have begun to gain some traction in finding the right man for the job. According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Philadelphia has begun interviewing candidates internally, including former Sixer Elton Brand.
The 76ers plan to interview internal front-office executives — former NBA All-Star Elton Brand, Ned Cohen, Marc Eversley and Alex Rucker — next week for general manager search, league sources said. Team is interviewing outside candidates this week.

Now three years into retirement, Elton Brand was once a staple for the Sixers, serving as their starting power forward for a number of years and earning two All-Star nods in his 17-year career. He has always been an intelligent basketball mind, and would likely do a serviceable job as the Sixers’ GM.
However as Charnia pointed out, the Sixers still have a ways to go in their search as they also plan to interview candidates that are not within the organization.
The Sixers have still managed to piece together a productive offseason, even without an official General Manager. They retained their biggest free agent piece in JJ Redick and were able to have another fruitful draft, though first-round pick Zhaire Smith is expected to be out for the season due to injury.
Whether the solution to their GM hunt comes from within the organization or not, expect the Sixers to do their full due diligence as they continue their search for a head decision maker.
