Clichés may be annoying to some, but they are passed from one generation to the next because the truth often lies within those often-repeated statements. For example, many generations have shared some variation of the following statement: Anything worth having requires a bit of work. This collection of eight short words can be applied to work, school, family or love. This week, Smile High, QUIN, 6LACK and The Main Squeeze set this cliché to the sound of a smooth Jazz and R&B fusion.
“Kinks just echoes the idea of doing the necessary work to achieve satisfaction and how you may think you’ve arrived, but that arriving is something that comes in every new phase of life,” 6LACK said about the track.
“You gotta work out the kinks if you wanna get to the love,” QUIN added.
The jazzy, easygoing track serves as the second single from Smile High and The Main Squeeze’s forthcoming project, The Vibetape. The Hip-Hop, funk and R&B fusion project features 6LACK and QUIN along with Chuck Inglish of The Cool Kids and Tiffany Gouché among others. Developed through a series of West Coast jam sessions, the LP aims to serve as counter to the “excessive seriousness entrenched in LA’s music scene.”
“I’ve always found the most joy in collaborating with others and combining what I do best with what other people do best, and just being pleasantly surprised with the end result,” Smile High said.
“That’s always been the essence of what I’ve been doing, and The Vibetape is truly the culmination of that.”
