CBS has shaken up the staff for ’60 Minutes’ amid allegations of inappropriate conduct by long-time producer Jeff Fager. ‘Jeff Fager will be leaving the company, effective immediately’ wrote CBS News President David Rhodes in a memo earlier this morning.
Fager has been working with the company for over 36 years so for them to come out and relieve him of his duties like this means two things. Firstly, there must have been substantial evidence in the case and secondly, there was more than probable cause for his termination. Rhodes elaborated on the firing:
Rhodes said in his memo that “this action today is not directly related to the allegations surfaced in press reports, which continue to be investigated independently. However, he violated company policy and it is our commitment to uphold those policies at every level.”
While they have declined to comment on what company ‘policy’ Fager exactly broke, but sources say that Fager would be inebriated at company parties and he would get involved in some inappropriate touching and for that reason, CBS has decided to part ways with their longtime producer. Fager is still denying the claims despite multiple allegations and even a text message threat to another employee at CBS.
We now live in a society where things like this will not be tolerated, as they should be. Fager’s termination comes as no surprise as we see stories like this coming out more and more throughout this year. It’s better to shed light on the dark parts of the world than to leave them hidden where no one can find the truth. The way I see it, the more people here about the repercussions of their actions, the less we’ll see things like this happen.
