Garcon has a non-displaced fracture in his neck. Placing Garcon on injured reserve effectively ends his season.
This is not great news for the 49ers. Garcon has been their top option at the receiver spot. He has 500 receiving yards on 40 receptions in 8 games. There has not been much to smile about this season for the 49ers, but the production by Garcon has been a bright spot.
Though Garcon was a major part of the offense, it honestly cannot get much worse for the 49ers. They currently sit at the bottom of the NFC East with a 0-8 record and the playoffs are too far out of reach. Regardless, it is still awful to see someone’s season come to an end.
The hope now is that Garcon will use this upcoming offseason to recover and get stronger. The 49ers acquired quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo from the New England Patriots this week. When Garcon becomes healthy again, he will be one of Garoppolo’s top targets.
Look for Marquise Goodwin and Aldrick Robinson to get most of the attention the rest of the season. Garoppolo will make his 49ers debut November 12 against the New York Giants.
