The Tampa Bay Buccaneers take an odd approach to the 2016 offseason when they fired head coach Lovie Smith. Tampa promoted offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter to be the head man with former Falcons head coach Mike Smith in charge of the defense. Holding the 9th overall pick will give the Bucs some interesting options on draft day.
The offense has to right core in tact in terms of weapons surrounding quarterback Jameis Winston. If the Bucs choose to upgrade the offense in round one it will probably one of the two premier left tackles if they are available. With quarterbacks going 1,2 and now possibly 7 or 8 it is possible either Ronnie Stanley or Laremy Tunsil is on the board with the 9th pick. Regardless Tampa will look to add a tackle later in the draft if they are unable to snag one in the first round.
On defense I think there are two directions the team could go with at pick number 9. Either Vernon Hargreaves or Shaq Lawson would be two nice fits. Hargreaves could be a nice fit opposite of Brent Grimes who is my number one rated cornerback prospect. Lawson on the other hand is more of a junkyard dog pass rusher. He also lead college football with 25.5 tackles for loss showing his ability to stop the run.
Later in the draft expect the Bucs to take a safety and fullback. The current starters at safety are Chris Conte and Bradley McDougald so they could use some depth at the position. The Bucs have also made it clear they are moving on from Javorskie Lane at fullback so this could be a prime spot for baby Gronk or baby Watt to block for Doug Martin.
