The New Orleans Saints had a disappointing season in 2015 finishing 7-9. A team that has been rattled with cap issues must now look toward the draft in order to ignite some young talent in the big easy.
First and foremost the Saints need to address to defensive side of the ball. An easy place to target is the defensive line where as many as 10 prospects could be selected in the first round. Alabama’s Jarran Reed appears to be a sure fire pick having little bust potential. Reed is a superior run defender which is important in a division with Cam Newton. If they prefer to go a different route Reed’s Bama teammate A’Shawn Robinson is a pass rushing specialist along the interior front. The Reed, Robinson combination was the collegiate version of Sheldon Richardson and Mohammed Wilkerson for the Jets.
The next possibility could be to add a speed element at linebacker. Drafting Stephone Anthony a year ago was a good start but adding Ohio State’s Darron Lee could significant make the Saints defense better. Lee zips around the football and ran a 4.43 during the NFL Scouting Combine. The NFL has been trending towards the more explosive undersized linebacker recently and Darron Lee from Ohio State fits that enigma.
On the offense Drew Brees could use someone to throw to. Colby Fleener helps at tight end but there is a lack of talent at the wide out position. After figuring out the defense early in the draft there are some late round options I have my eye on. Malcolm Mitchell from Georgia and Marquez North from Tennessee could be those guys you target starting in the 4th round range. Mitchell is a sure handed target who’s mediocre stats were mirrored by horrific quarterback play. North on the other hand was one of my top rated receivers prior to the start of the season but was hampered by injuries and saw very little game action.
