2K Gaming is returning to the gridiron. Today, the two entities announced that they had signed a multi-year partnership that would provide future NFL games under the 2K umbrella. As of now, the games are described as “non-simulation football game experiences.” Financial terms were not disclosed.
Previously, 2K Gaming and NFL had partnered to produce games from 1999 until 2004. More recently, they turned their focus towards the WWE 2K and NBA 2K franchises.
“We’re thrilled to be back in business with the NFL in a partnership that will span multiple video games centered on fun, approachable and social experiences,” 2k President David Ismailer said.
“It’s exciting to bring together 2K’s expertise in creating award-winning sports games with the NFL’s renowned status as a world-class entertainment and sports organization,” he stated.
2K projects under this partnership are reportedly launching in 2021. The NFL’s current partnership with EA Sports is slated to end in 2021. It is unclear if this would effect the Madden series moving forward.
“EA SPORTS is the exclusive publisher of NFL simulation games, and our partnership with the NFL and NFLPA remains unchanged. Our agreements have always allowed for non-exclusive development of non-simulation games on various platforms,” EA Sports said in a statement.
The NFL has not discussed its future with EA Sports as of yet.
