Around the nation, millions of Americans will take the day off and celebrate Independence Day. The annual celebration often includes cookouts, BBQs, block parties and of course, fireworks. With that said, those hoping to include a fireworks show in their celebration may have to pay a pretty penny. According to the American Pyrotechnics Association (APA), sales of firecrackers and similar materials are expected to increase by about $100 million in 2023.
“Fireworks use is expected to hit an all-time high this year, especially with July 4th falling on a Tuesday,” APA Director Julie Heckman told The Guardian.
“We predict revenues could exceed $2.3bn for the 2023 fireworks season.”
Americans can expect sales and overall revenue to continue to increase for the foreseeable future. By 2028, Heckman and the APA believe that sales could top $3.3 billion by 2028. If their projections prove to be accurate, the National Park Service may play a role in it. According to federal records, the fireworks display at the National Mall cost taxpayers $278,500 back in 2021. This year, it will reportedly cost taxpayers a bit less with a total bill of $269,000.
