In light of the COVID-19 pandemic and growing backlash regarding its lack of diversity and inclusion efforts, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association is making unprecedented changes to the 2022 Golden Globes. Earlier this week, the HFPA revealed that the award show won’t be much of show instead. It will be held in Hollywood without an audience or livestream. Instead, winners will be updated via social media and no media credentials will be accepted.
“This year’s event is going to be a private event and will not be livestreamed. We will be providing real time updates on winners on the Golden Globes website and our social media,” the organization wrote in a statement obtained by Variety.
The ceremony will take place on January 9, 2022 at 9 p.m. ET. The HFPA will use the ceremony as an opportunity to highlight its philanthropy throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Over the past 25 years, the HFPA has donated $50 million to more than 70 entertainment-related charities, film restoration, scholarship programs and humanitarian efforts; incredibly impactful organizations, many of whom were hit hard over the last two years as a result of the pandemic,” the statement continues.
