New blood is coming to Capitol Hill. Twenty-five-year-old Maxwell Frost has become the first member of Generation Z to secure a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. The Florida native won the Sunshine State’s 10th Congressional District, a position previously held by Florida Gubernatorial Candidate Val Demings.
“We Won! History was made tonight. We made history for Floridians, for Gen Z, and for everyone who believes we deserve a better future. I am beyond thankful for the opportunity to represent my home in the United States Congress,” Maxwell Frost tweeted.
Maxwell Frost is an Orlando native and a student at nearby Valencia College. As a young adult, he has volunteered with Newtown Action Alliance, organized with the American Civil Liberties Union and served as the national organizing director of March For Our Lives. Throughout his campaign, he has advocated for legislation that will tackle gun violence, end mass incarceration and demilitarize the police.
“Your voice will make a difference in Washington, and I’m very glad I’ll get to serve alongside you,” Frost’s new colleague, Senator Elizabeth Warren, tweeted.
Maxwell Frost may not be the only Generation Z Congress member on Capitol Hill. In New Hampshire, right-wing conservative Karoline Leavitt is competing for a spot in the United State House of Representatives. Unlike Frost, her path to Washington, D.C. will be much tougher.
