
Today is a day unlike any other in modern American history. As federal lawmakers debated the results of November’s election, thousands of President Donald Trump supporters stormed Capitol Hill. Running up the steps of the Capitol, rioters clashed with police officers and damaged property. After making it inside, criminals broke into Nancy Pelosi’s office and took items from federal buildings. Making matters worse, a rioter was shot and killed during the incident.
At approximately 3 p.m., a mob formed outside of the House Chambers as politicians were being evacuated. As the situation escalated, a standoff with security emerged. Shortly thereafter, reports surfaced that a woman had been shot and was in critical condition. Hours later, she was pronounced dead Details regarding the shooting are not being released at the time.

In addition to a death on Capitol Hill, more than a dozen have been arrested. Also, a number of officers reportedly suffered minor injuries.
In an effort to control the crowds, National Guard troops from Washington, D.C. and Virginia were deployed. Officers from Montgomery Country traveled to the Capitol. Mayor Muriel Bowser also issued a 6 p.m. citywide curfew for all nonessential workers.
