As we enter into the final stages of 2016, we can’t help but anticipate the huge year of movies we have ahead of us in 2017. Like 2016, next year promises to be just as jam-packed with blockbuster superhero movies, sequels, and reboots and that are set to draw fans into the movie theaters. Without further ado, these are the top movies set to release in 2017.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
Marvel’s favorite galactic superhero team is back with its second installment in the franchise. After a successful introduction to the team which included Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana) Drax (Dave Batista), Groot (Vin Diesel) and Rocket (Bradley Cooper) in 2014, and now Marvel’s producers are set to release volume 2 in April of next year. In the second installment the team is set to face new challenges and battles in space, and while no official plot details have been released the trailer indicates that their new battles could have something to do with Kurt Russell’s character Ego the Living Planet.
Pirates of the Caribbean 5
Maybe one of the most anticipated movies of 2017 would be the reboot/installment of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. This movie in the franchise is set to release in March after releasing its 4th installment in 2011, so fans will be interested to see how they rejuvenate this franchise with a new story. With Jack Sparrow and the gang set to continue on their journey, along with Javier Bardem, Kaya Scodelario, and Brenton Thwaites, who was the star of the first trailer for the 5th installment in the franchise.
Power Rangers
If you were raised watching the Power Rangers, you will be excited about the first ever adult live-action adaptation. The movie is set to be very different from the traditional children’s TV show as it surrounds 5 high school students who after coming into contact with powerful stones, gain superhuman abilities and harness their abilities to save the world. It is set to star Bryan Cranston and Elizabeth Banks as Zordon and Rite Repulsa, as well as a range of other stars that have made this movie one of the most anticipated movies next year. The Rangers are set to team up March 24th.
Justice League
Earth’s mightiest heroes are set to unite in the next movie of the DC extended universe set to release in late 2017. Inspired by Superman’s death, Batman (Ben Affleck), helped by Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) set out on a journey to bring the earth’s greatest super heroes together to form the Justice League, which will include Ezra Miller as the Flash, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jason Mamoa as Aquaman and eventually, Henry Cavil as Superman. There’s no official details on the plot and the trailer wasn’t really specific as to why they have to join forces, and who they have to protect the Earth against but rumors indicate that the Justice League will be tested by another extra-terrestrial attack that will threaten humanity. Let’s just hope DC and Warner Brothers get this movie right.
Spider-Man: Homecoming
Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is back yet again for another reboot of the superhero franchise. After a failed reboot of the superhero with Andrew Garfield as the web-slinger, Marvel has decided to introduce a new version. They introduced Tom Holland as Spidey in Captain America: Civil War, and hinted at Holland’s future involvement with Tony Stark aka Ironman. There are no official plot details yet but if the cast is any indication as to how good this movie is going to be, there is hope for Spider-Man. It will include Michael Keaton as the Vulture, Martin Starr, Donald Glover and Zendaya, which makes for an all-star cast for its 1st installment. After Holland’s performance in Civil War, Marvel fans can not wait to see him in his first solo movie, and frankly, I can’t either. The movie is set to release on July 7, 2017.
Star Wars: Episode VIII
(NO TRAILER RELEASED)

Star Wars fans were ‘awaken’ after the 7th installment of the franchise was released last year, introducing a whole new story line and characters that are set to continue the journey through the world that George Lucas created almost 50 years ago. The story is set to continue from where the 7th movie ended, something that is a rarity in the Star Wars franchise, and it’s got fans wondering how they are going to push the story of Rey and Finn into the Jedi world. No real details have been released but the movie has begun filming and it is set to release on December 17, 2017. But if you can’t wait until then, Rogue One is destroying the box office, and that should quench your need for the world of Jedi’s and Death Stars.
Beauty And The Beast
On March 17th, 2017, the world will be re-introduced to a Disney classic, Beauty & The Beast, but this time, in a live-action version. The story will revolve around the fairy-tale of a young woman who falls in love with a beastly looking prince and will star Emma Watson, Luke Evans and Dan Stevens and directed by Chicago director Bill Condon. Many will be excited to see how Emma Watson and cast adapt the children’s classic into their own version.
Kong: Skull Island
The prequel to King Kong will be about the Island where King Kong resided before being captured and taken to New York City and eventually famously climbing the Empire State Building. Set to release in March 2017, the prequel will star Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackon, John Goodman, Brie Larson and many more talented actors who will help us explore the island Kong is from, Skull Island. It looks like the cast will not only be introduced to the giant Gorilla himself but also the dangers that come with the Island that he resides in. The trailer shows us a sneak peek at a much bigger King Kong than ever seen before in film.
Wonder Woman
The Amazonian Superhero Princess will receive her first ever live-action solo film as Wonder Woman hits the big screens in June of 2017. As a part of the DCEU, Warner Brothers introduced Gal Gadot as the superhero with a cameo in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but we will finally get to see her in solo action. The story will be a prequel to her appearance in Batman v Superman and follow the origins of how Diana Prince, the princess of the Amazon, became the superhero we know now as Wonder Woman. The story is set to star Chris Pine as Captain Steve Trevor and includes a cast of other supporting actors that make this a blockbuster movie to see next year.
Logan
Last but not least, Hugh Jackman’s final portrayal of the Wolverine will be released in March, beginning a new era for the generation of Wolverine and X-men fans. Not much had been said about the plot of the movie, but it is said to gain inspiration from the Wolverine comic ‘Old Man Logan’ where Wolverine has grown old and is forced out of retirement. It seems from the intriguing trailer that this movie will take a much darker approach to any other Marvel movie we’ve seen as of yet, and quite possibly a more bloody approach as well, as it’s been given an R rating. Fans will be piling into the movie theaters to watch Jackman’s iconic portrayal of the superhero for one last time.
