In a move that surprises literally no one, the Detroit Pistons have re-signed Andre Drummond. According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, Drummond has agreed to terms on a five-year max deal with the team. The final value of the deal will depend on final estimations of the salary cap. It is currently estimated at about a total of $130 million.
Drummond was a restricted free agent and the Pistons would have matched any deal for him. Instead of waiting it out, however, they decided to sign their star center right away.
Drummond scored 16.2 points and grabbed 14.8 rebounds rebounds per game last season. In doing so, the big man led the league in rebounding. Drummond easily cemented himself as one of the top centers in the league. Still only 22 years old, he has plenty of room to continue growing.
The news comes on the heels of another report stating Detroit will be signing Ish Smith. Free agency has started quickly for the Pistons. The team has now been able to re-sign Andre Drummond, their star center. Additionally, it has filled a huge need in adding a backup point guard with Smith.
Stan Van Gundy ain’t messing around.
