One of the most underrated players in the NBA over the past few seasons has been Paul Millsap. The Atlanta Hawks forward has been the best player on that team the last two years. He is a jack-of-all-trades, able to score from just about anywhere and defend just about any position.
So there’s no question Millsap can get a sizable pay day in free agency. But as it stands now, the big man has not made any decisions on whether or not he’ll approach free agency next summer.
Following via Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution:
“I haven’t decided anything, no,” Millsap told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Tuesday.
…
“I think the plan is to see how this season goes and go from there,” Millsap said. “I can’t predict what is going to happen. For me, it’s focus on basketball. Get through this year, try to get a championship for this team first of all. We’ll deal with all that during the summer time when we have all our options on the table.”
Millsap’s lack of a decision shouldn’t be too surprising. He’s already making a fair amount of money (he would earn more than $21 million next season if he opts in) so it’s not as easy of a decision as it sounds.
That said, Paul Millsap is 31 years old and it’s difficult to project how he will age. It may be wise to secure a long-term deal before he gets any older.
