Joaquin Phoenix is no stranger to playing against type, he’s an actor that feels the need to constantly push the boundaries of what he feels comfortable doing. While he’s now known for predominantly appearing in indie dramas, it appears that his knack for reinvention has struck again. In ‘You Were Never Really Here‘, Phoenix plays a Ray Donovan-esque character who is called in to fix less than desirable situations. While this is severely lacking in the glamour department that Ray Donovan seems to have a corner on, it appears to be a more honest recreation of what the life of a fixer must truly be like. Fixer’s more than likely play a role in the news we consume on a daily basis, and if they are doing their jobs right we will never truly know who they are. But with film and television, as is the case with many things, it allows us to attempt to understand the lives of people who we would normally never interact with on a regular basis.
