Just two weeks ago, Zoran Dragic was a member of the Miami Heat and was looking forward to a good season alongside his brother, Goran. Zoran was then traded to the Boston Celtics along with a future second round draft pick. Now, just weeks after he had been traded, the C’s have decided to waive the guard. Following from an official Boston Celtics press release:
The Boston Celtics announced today that they have waived guard/forward Zoran Dragic.
Dragic, a 6’5” guard/forward, was originally acquired by the Celtics along with a future second round pick and cash considerations from the Miami Heat on July 27, 2015. He appeared in 16 games split between the Phoenix Suns and Miami Heat during the 2014-15 season and averaged 1.8 points in 4.7 minutes per game over that span. He posted a season-high 22 points on 9-17 (.529) shooting from the field, three rebounds, two assists and two steals in 41 minutes of action against the Philadelphia 76ers on April 15, 2015.
After the release, it had been reported that Dragic was going to go back overseas and play his basketball professionally somewhere in Europe. Following from Marc Stein of ESPN:
Reps for Zoran Dragic, I'm told, wanted to secure release from Celts so the younger Dragic could return to Europe and ensure consistent PT

Dragic has always been better suited to play elsewhere outside the NBA. His brother Goran just cashed in on a max deal with Miami this summer. Goran didn’t seem to mind the Zoran trade. He seems to understand that the NBA is a business before anything else, unlike the Morris brothers who formerly made a nice tandem with the Phoenix Suns until Marcus was dealt to the Detroit Pistons.
