Police have made an arrest in Tuesday afternoon’s shooting of Memphis rapper Young Dolph.
Corey McClendon, 43, was arrested near Highland Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard. He is being charged with attempted murder for the Tuesday afternoon shooting.
Young Dolph, whose real name is Adolph Thornton Jr., was shot after a verbal altercation with three men. Dolph is in critical but stable condition ta a local hospital.
“The argument between (Young Dolph) and the men escalated to a physical fight, and he fell to the ground. One of the men then pulled out a gun and started shooting,” said Los Angeles Police Detective Meghan Aguilar. “Young Dolph was struck but was able to get up and run into a local business.”
Aguilar told the media that the two other men are at large. No information has been released about their identity or location.
McClendon is an associate of another Memphis rapper, Yo Gotti. That explains why early reports identified Gotti as a possible suspect or person of interest. Aguilar disputed that report, saying Yo Gotti is not a suspect..
Earlier this year, Young Dolph’s SUV was shot at nearly 100 times while in Charlotte, North Carolina. The vehicle was bulletproof so Dolph was not injured.
The incident was inspiration for his album, Bulletproof.
