Craig Sager’s admission that his leukemia is no longer in remission has been an enormously sad story in the NBA over the past week. The TNT sideline announcer is staying positive despite pessimistic timelines on how long he has to live. Despite facing these problems, he is set to work two games this week on Tuesday and Thursday.
Sager is perhaps best known for his sideline interviews with San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich. Pop’s short answers and jokes with Sager have become something of a tradition in the NBA.
As such, a pin produced by the company Patti Lapel has created a commemorative pin to showcase one of those same interviews. The pins are on sale for ten dollars, though they will not ship out until after April 25th since the first batch has been sold out. 15% of the proceeds from the pin sales will be donated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
The NBA world has rushed to support Craig, not only through buying these pins, but also through showing their support on Twitter. In a move designed by writer Russ Bengtson, fans everywhere are dressing in their most colorful jackets and ties to support Sager with his most distinguishing trait. These fans are posting pictures on Twitter with the hashtag “SagerStrong” to show their support for an all-time great reporter.
Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with Craig and we hope that he continues to recover and beat cancer.
