Original Story: Rapper YG arrested by Los Angeles police after a raid on his home on Friday, January 24, 2020.
YG, legal name Keenon Jackson, faces charges on as part of an ongoing criminal investigation. According to Entertainment Tonight, the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department arrested YG at 4 a.m. and obtained a warrant to search his home. YG was booked on robbery and his bail was set at $250,000.
This unfortunate occurrence comes just two days before the 2020 Grammy awards where YG was to join Roddy Ricch, John Legend, and others on stage in tribute to Nipsey Hussle. Nipsey Hussle was murdered in March 2019 outside of his clothing store in Compton.
ET reports, Joe Tacopina, YG’s attorney, hopes to have the rapper out of custody before the ceremony takes place. He believes there may be ulterior motives in YG’s arrest.
“We are posting bail. Quite frankly I suspect the timing of this was not coincidental. I think the whole purpose of this was to prevent him from doing that tribute to Nipsey [Hussle] on Sunday at the GRAMMYs,” Tacopina says.
Many fans, peers, and others have called for YG’s freedom, on social media. Meek Mill took to Twitter to show support and The Game also used the platform to speak on his theory behind YG’s arrest.
