
In the year 2018, the world of Hip-Hop has lost a number of figures. Throughout the year, we’ve said goodbye to Mac Miller, Jimmy Wopo, Young Greatness and many more. Among those that lost their lives this year is XXXTentacion. The young Floridian was tragically shot over the summer in a robbery gone wrong. In the months since his passing, his friends and family have received an overwhelming amount of support from other artists and industry insiders. With everything that has happened this year, the passing of the young artist remains as one of the landmark moments of this year in new age Hip-Hop.
Despite the passing of the Florida native, his music career has continued on. Just days following his death, his team put out the last music video he directed. Not long afterwards, his team and label put out his first posthumous album, Skins. While his work did not earn in any Grammy nominations in his passing, his legacy has been reflected well in his commercial success. Today, it was announced that one of the last singles released before the artist’s passing. The RIAA has officially certified XXXTentacion’s song, “Moonlight” as double platinum.
