It doesn’t look like the Bryan Singer scandal will affect ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ that much.
Variety is reporting that the super-sized superhero sequel is on track to have a massive $125 million debut. If it does reach this feat, the film will have the honor of being the biggest debut in franchise history. Currently ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’ or ‘X3′, holds the title when it pulled in $123 million Memorial Day weekend back in 2006.
Industry execs are also estimating that the film will bring in $250 million domestically which will make it the most successful film in the franchise. ‘X3’ owns that record as well with $234 million.
The reboot ‘X-Men: First Class’ didn’t post as great of numbers as its predecessors. The film debuted with $55 million back in 2011 and went on to net $146 million domestically which made it the lowest grossing movie in the franchise.
Star power is also a major factor. ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ combines the cast from the new film with veterans from the old one so expect to see Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen fight alongside Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy.
We will see if execs are right when the film hits theaters on May 23.
