Wu-Tang Clan was honored with a special gift over the weekend. The legendary rap crew now have a section of Staten Island named after them. The Wu-Tang District, which is the intersection of Targee Street and Vanderbilt Avenue, was celebrated on May 4.
CNN reports fans, local officials, and members of the community were present at the ceremony. New York City Council Member Debi Rose stated on Twitter,
“The Wu-Tang Clan turned their experiences growing up here into something that now resonates with people all over the world, with young people who live in urban settings, young people whose neighborhoods are underserved, young people who face economic and social challenges.”
Ghostface Killah stated in a speech at the celebration,
“It’s like a dream right now. It’s like, yo, 25 years later to come back and to have district, a block named after your crew. It’s like, yo, it’s unbelievable. First of all, people don’t get to make it 25 years later. To come from Staten Island, I wanna tell y’all anything is possible. I never saw this day coming. I knew that we were some ill MCs, but I didn’t know it would take it this far.”
