To start off the slew of Comic Book films, 20th Century Fox took what some may have saw as a huge risk by releasing Deadpool with a R-rating. With Deadpool being a low budget film and R-rated, some may have thought that the film would flop, but it turned out to be the first r-rated success in the comic book realm. With Deadpool’s success, rumors of other upcoming comic book films being r-rated started to surface, Wolverine 3 being at the forefront of the rumors. Collider’s Steve Weintraub caught up with Simon Kinberg, Wolverine 3’s producer to address some rumors surrounding the film.
Without directly asking Kinberg about the r-rating, he tell’s Weintraub: “as you and others have reported, it is an R-rated movie. It’s violent, it’s kind of like a western in its tone. It’s just a very cool, different film.” Shortly before revealing the R-rating, Kinberg also delves into the story line and something fans have been waiting for, Old Man Logan. “It takes place in the future” Kinberg tells Weintraub and that the film has quietly started filming already.
Wolverine 3 is due in theaters in 2017, on March 3rd. Outside of Hugh Jackman, the cast of the film has yet to be revealed. Patrick Stewart, who takes on the mantle of Professor X in the early films, was rumored to be in the film, but Kinberg has yet to confirm wether or not Stewart has been cast.
