The four game losing streak is over, and the new winning streak is at one game for the Washington Wizards as they defeated the Charlotte Hornets 110-107 in double overtime. The Hornets scared the Wizards, but Washington was able to pull out the victory even though they got into some very scary situations.
John Wall lead the Wizards with 32 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists in 48 minutes of play. This victory has to go down as one of his best games of the season on both the offensive and defensive sides of the court, as the opposing point guard, Kemba Walker, was held to only 9 points.
Drew Gooden likely had his best game as a Wizard, and his best game in a long time, as his scored 15 points and grabbed 17 rebounds in the victory. Gooden did this is 39 minutes of play, which is an amount of time he does not usually see, and has not seen in his time as a member of the Wizards organization. Getting Gooden rolling is great for the Wizards as they will look to him for his experience come playoff time.
Washington lost the second and third quarters by a combined total of 13 points, but their strong effort to both open and close the game allowed for them to pull out the victory. With Wall being in straight out attack mode, the Wizards were able to score at will down the stretch of the game.
For Charlotte, Al Jefferson led the way with 31 points and 10 rebounds in 40 minutes of play. He was a big mismatch for Marcin Gortat, and the Hornets game planned around this matchup to get some easy looks on the inside.
The Wizards still hold the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference playoff picture, while the Hornets not drop to 11th place. If the Hornets want to make the playoffs they better get back on track fast before they are eliminated from contention for a playoff spot. For the Wizards, they need to build on this win, and hopefully get another streak going to at least get them home court advantage for the first round of the playoffs.
