The Kevin Durant sweepstakes are beginning to take shape in terms of who will go for him. Of course every team would happily him excluding Cleveland (LeBron, duh) but there are only a select few that believe that they can actually snap him up to experience the prime of his career.
It’s safe to say that whoever he signs for, that team will get the best Kevin Durant we will ever see. Obviously we can’t make that official until he retires but that’s far down the line.
As for the teams, you see them and totally get it. Except for the Brooklyn Nets, they have no chance.
In addition to the Wizards, the Mavericks, Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat, New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets are expected to be among the franchises most aggressively courting Durant. But the Thunder is thought to be the favorite because of the bond Durant has established with the franchise since he was selected second overall in 2007, and because the team already boasts one of the NBA’s best rosters.
“It’s difficult to imagine him leaving that situation,” said a Western Conference executive, who spoke under condition of anonymity because league tampering rules bar discussing potential free agents who are still under contract with another team. “That team is loaded. If they can stay healthy, they’re championship favorites.”
That’s the only thing really isn’t it? If they’re healthy.
You can say that if they were all healthy they would probably be in more Finals than the one they lost in 2012. Now personally I can’t see him leaving OKC, I think he knows that the only reason they haven’t been succeeding is because of powers out of their control. But may that also be a reason to leave? Maybe all the injuries his team has annoys him so he goes to another team just for a change of scenery?
I hope it’s the latter so the Heat can go for him but I’m not stupid. He loves OKC and the Thunder fans love him. He’ll most likely stay.
