The Wizards worked out a deal with both the Knicks and Hawks to gain the 15th pick in the draft, which was used to take former Kansas forward Kelly Oubre.
When Oubre was first informed he would be taking his talents to the nation’s capital to play for the Washington Wizards, he said wherever he went, they would win a championship.
Following From ESPN.
“Whichever team drafts me is gonna win the championship.” That’s what Oubre told ESPN’s Shannon Spake after being informed he was getting traded to the Wizards.
Oubre did not say they would win immediately, but there is no doubt that he was guaranteeing he would make an impact while helping the Wizards compete for a title next season. To do this, he and the rest of the Wizards will have to continue to grow as individuals and as a team to ensure they make it past the Eastern Conference Semifinals next season.
For the Wizards, it’s nice to see their first round pick knows the ultimate goal and has dreams of taking Washington to the promise land. He’s going to have to work to make sure his guarantee happens, but with Washington on the rise, it is definitely a possibility.
