The Washington Wizards probably aren’t going to get Kevin Durant in free agency. They are reportedly likely to re-sign Bradley Beal though, probably to a max contract. In fact, it isn’t only Beal that the Wizards hope to keep around. From J. Michael of CSN Mid-Atlantic:
In talking to multiple persons with knowledge of the situation as recent as Wednesday afternoon, the Wizards remain determined to keep their core intact which means Beal stays put with John Wall, Markieff Morris, Marcin Gortat, Kelly Oubre and Otto Porter.
It’s unsurprising to see Wall, Beal, Porter, and Oubre listed as part of the team’s “core.” All are young and talented players. It also isn’t too much of a shocker to see Morris listed there. His extensive history of off-court issues aside, he’s a great talent. Gortat feels a bit out of place on this list. He’s still productive, but at 32 years of age, that productivity isn’t likely to last much longer. He certainly can’t be considered a part of the team’s future.
Beal is a very talented young player, and is one of the league’s best shooters. However, he has an injury-riddled history, and has struggled to stay on the floor throughout his four-year career.
This season, Beal averaged 17.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and a steal per game, while shooting 38.7% from three-point range, but played just 55 games, and started in just 35 of those games.
