So the Washington Wizards take another step back from their breakout season 2 years ago. If you remember back they had a legitimate opportunity to make the NBA Finals but John Wall unfortunately got injured and they had no chance of advancing further.
Move to now, they are slowly dying in terms of long-term future and it couldn’t have come at a worse time. With Kevin Durant looking at possible moving spots, the Washington Wizards have little to zero leverage.
As we know, Randy Wittman took the chop but we all know that he wasn’t completely to blame. But they have some candidates that are significantly better. Tom Thibodeau, Jeff Hornacek, Scott Brooks, there’s a decent pool out there. John Wall has already hinted at his choice according to Washington Post’s Jorge Castillo.
Regardless of Durant’s decision, Brooks would have a fan in Washington: John Wall has said he would want the Wizards to hire Brooks if the position was vacated, according to a person with knowledge of the situation,As for his coaching ability, Brooks perpetually took heat for implementing an offense that rarely ventured beyond isolation plays for Durant and Westbrook. Ball movement was often stagnant. Defenses knew what was coming late in games and were prepared for it in the playoffs.
Now we will obviously see Brooks as the guy that can possibly bring KD. But is Durant that fickle? “OMG my old coach is there AND it’s my home town?!”
I suggest Washington hire whoever without KD in mind, focus on somebody with a good track record and can fit with your team.
And stop trying to be the Warriors, it’s the reason you’re in this position.
