With all that has been going wrong with the Wizards as of late, they finally received some good news after Boston lost to the Los Angeles Clippers 119-106. Washington has now clinched their second straight playoff berth, and will look to improve upon last year’s exit in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
The Wizards have now lost five of their last six games, and they have been on a downward spiral ever since they came back from the all-star break. At certain points, it has appeared that all hope was lost for the Wizards, but maybe the news of a playoff berth will help them to loosen up a bit and get back to their winning ways. Now that they know they will be in the playoffs, they may be able to focus more on just playing rather than having to win.
There is still potential in DC, but things will have to turn around if the Wizards want to maximize the potential they have stored up. They can make a run, but they are going to need to come together if every player on the team wants to make something special happen.
Even with a playoff berth, the Wizards need to win some more games to try to gain home court advantage for as long as they can in the playoffs. The Wizards still hold the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference, are 2.5 games back of Toronto for the fourth seed, and 4.5 games ahead of Milwaukee. Now that the Wizards have clinched, it is time for Washington and their fan base to get ready for an exciting playoff run.
