Washington Wizards plans for the future can get complex by next June. Their fan base has high hopes of getting their prodigal son, Kevin Durant, to return home and play for the Wizards. The team just might have to jump through some hoops to make it happen.
KD to DC is a real thing in the nation’s capitol and it could happen if all the pieces fall the way Washington needs them to.
One big piece would be Bradley Beal not taking an extension and just waiting until the summer of 2017 to re-sign with the team, something the team apparently wants to happen. It appears the Wizards and Beal, who have until the start of the 2015-16 NBA Season to agree to an extension, have hit a road block.
Following from J. Michael of CSN Washington.
The Wizards and Bradley Beal don’t appear to be any closer to reaching terms on an extension — the window is open until the start of the 2015-16 regular season — with both sides downplaying to CSNwashington.com during the past few weeks about the progress of talks.
The good thing for them, of course, is that they haven’t shut down negotiations
This roadblock could end up working for all sides involved, if all goes according to plan. Bradley Beal just waiting an extra season so the Wizards could use their extra money next summer to court Kevin Durant, would be ideal.
On the otherhand, Beal does have a small history with injuries, so the fact that he wants to lock in a deal that guarantees he gets paid in the future would be ideal for himself personally. It’s really up to the team if they want to run the risk of Beal not re-signing at all and letting him walk or re-signing him and then give up other pieces that could throw off the balance of the Wizards roster.
