The New York Giants have hired former Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Wink Martindale to be their next defensive coordinator. He was fairly successful as the defensive coordinator of the Baltimore Ravens but was let go this year after an injury-plagued season decimated the Ravens’ hopes for a playoff bid. The New York Giants cleaned house this offseason and now have a new Head Coach and defensive coordinator to hopefully usher them into a new era.
The Giants have agreed to a three-year deal with new defensive coordinator Wink Martindale, sources say. Nice commitment get for new coach Brian Daboll.

The Baltimore Ravens consistently had talented defenses that played hard under defensive coordinator Wink Martindale. It was somewhat shocking when the Ravens announced that they were moving on from him after the injury-riddled season. Despite the injuries, he still helped keep the Ravens as a top-20 defensive team this past season. The hope in New York is he can establish some new schemes and some toughness for the franchise moving forward.
Ravens’ scoring defense rank until Wink Martindale:
2018: 2nd
2019: 3rd
2020: 2nd
2021: 19th (decimated by injuries)He’s consistently gotten the most out of what he’s had to work with, including this season when personnel was so limited. https://t.co/XHl9ONPVTL

The Giants still have plenty of decisions to make on both sides of the ball without considering free agency or the 2022 NFL Draft. Eventually, they will have to make decisions regarding quarterback Daniel Jones and often injured running back Saquon Barkley. The defensive side of the ball is now more secured with Martindale as the new defensive coordinator. This may just be what the team needs to right the ship moving forward.
