Denver Nuggets re-signed forward Kostas Papanikolaou last week and while some were confused by the move, it appears that it was a little motivated based off an injury on the team.
Wilson Chandler has been battling a hip injury to start the 2015-16 season and it now appears that his injury rehab hasn’t gone well at all and he might be out longer than expected.
Following from Chris Dempsey of the Denver Post.
Now, it seems those concerns are being validated. Chandler is out for tonight’s game against Milwaukee, and there is no longer a firm timetable for his return. He’s not progressing as well as hoped in his rehab of a right hip strain, and so, for the time being he’s in a bit of a holding pattern as he and the Nuggets training staff continue to work on the issue.
“I know that they are exhausting every and all option to try to get him back,” Nuggets coach Michael Malone said. “Obviously, he’s been out for a while. We miss having him. He’s a big part of what we’re trying to do.”
Chandler has not played in the regular season, missing all seven games to this point. He has not practiced, either. Chandler initially thought it would be a two-week process to get him back on the court, but now says he’s no longer sure when he’ll be healthy enough to play.
Chandler is key to the Nuggets future going forward especially based off the fact that he signed an extension over the summer to keep him in Denver for a few more seasons. This season though, No matter if Chandler comes back or not, this Nuggets team will still be hanging out at the bottom of the Western Conference this season.
The news of Wilson’s hip issues came across earlier today but now, Yahoo! Sports Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that Chandler will miss the remainder of the season due to hip surgery.
