
Will Smith has been in the headlines a lot over the past few weeks. Most notably, he’s been in the news for his role as the genie in the upcoming Aladdin reboot. Heading into the release of the new film, Will Smith has signed on the be a part of another major film.
As reported today, Will Smith is set to play the role of Richard Williams in King Richard. Richard Williams is most well known for being the father of Serena and Venus Williams. Despite never playing professional tennis himself, Richard Williams devised a seventy-eight page plan to guide his daughters to professional tennis. Evidently, things worked on in their favor.
Behind the scenes, Zach Baylin is set to write the film’s script. In addition, Tim White, Trevor White Mary Solomon, Rick Rickertsen and Will Smith are set to work on the film as producers. Allan Mandelbaum and Caleeb Pinkett are set to work on the film as executive producers. There is no set date for the film to be released, but this appears to be the only film Smith is working on at the moment. As a result, Deadline reports, “This is something he’s passionate about and it could happen quickly.”
